Memory Screenings for Older Adults

We all joke about how as we get older, memory is the “first to go.” But it’s no joke. Cognitive decline can stem from a variety of causes, including thyroid imbalance, nutritional or metabolic disorders, depression, stroke, Parkinson’s disease or a host of other conditions. But it can mean something more serious like Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia.

On June 7, 2012, JF&CS’ Aviv Older Adult Services – Tools for Aging division is hosting a Memory Screening Clinic. These free, confidential screenings will be open to the public and include follow-up resources for older adults who are concerned about memory loss. The 30-minute screenings are not comprehensive diagnostic evaluations but can help promote awareness and action toward getting help for cognitive impairment or dementia if needed. Screenings will be offered by appointment only at JF&CS’ main office at 4549 Chamblee Dunwoody Road, Atlanta, GA, 30338. Appointments can be scheduled from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For additional information or to make an appointment, please call 770-677-9411.
