Mitzvah Day 2017 Project Details

VIA Mitzvah Day is the largest Jewish young adult service day in Atlanta. 

Beginning in 2003 this will be the 13th year of service. Hundreds of volunteers participate in projects all around Atlanta. Volunteers will help a variety of different organizations and populations. We strive to have at least one project that everyone would be interested in participating in.

Who

VIA Mitzvah Day is organized and led by VIA - Volunteers in Action, JF&CS' Young Adult Volunteers. Generally, volunteers are 18-35 years old.

Project Name: The Packaged Good
Project Leaders: Lauren Gross & Eva Rimler
Project Time: 2 pm - 4 pm
Location: Dunwoody
Project: Create care packages for Holocaust Survivors who attend Café Europa including placemats, snacks, and notes, as well as write notes of encouragement to soldiers.
Volunteers Needed: 30
Partner Organization: JF&CS PAL Program (Atlanta's ONLY Jewish Big Brother/Big Sister Program).

Project Name: Concrete Jungle - Dog Head Farm
Project Leader: Yoni Kaplan
Project Time: 2 pm - 4 pm
Location: Sylvan Hills
Project: Weed fall crops, turn over beds for winter and complete general farm maintenance.

Project Name: The Shepherd Center (Family Friendly)

Location: Buckhead
Project: Play bingo with patients and their families. Please note: Children must be at least 10 years old.

Project Name: Friendship Circle

Location: Sandy Springs
Project: Sukkot Party with children and teens with developmental disabilities.

Project Name: JF&CS Mitzvah Projects (Family Friendly)
Project Leader: Meredith Lefkoff, JF&CS Volunteer Coordinator
Project Time: 2 pm - 4 pm
Location: Dunwoody
Project: Stocking JF&CS' Kosher Food Pantry, painting flower pots for Holocaust Survivors who attend Café Europa and creating birthday and get well cards for older adults (part of JF&CS Aviv Celebrations program).

Project Name: Hemshech Holocaust Memorial

Project Time: 11 am - 1 pm
Location: Southwest Atlanta
Project: Beautifying the Holocaust Memorial at Greenwood Cemetery. Planting flowers, weeding, raking and cleaning plaques.

Project: Play bingo with JF&CS NORC (Naturally Occurring Retirement Community) members.

Project: Help with home repairs for low-income seniors. Projects include light gardening, home repair, creating flower boxes, building benches and more.

Project: Enhance the trails landscape - remove weeds and invasive plants and spread mulch.

Project: Creating birthday and get well cards for older adults (part of JF&CS Aviv Celebrations program) and making toiletry kits for those in need.

Project: Organizing the kitchen and pantry, participating in other projects around the home as needed, and playing games with the residents.
